How To Conduct Tryouts For School Sports

Tryouts for school sports teams can be quite different than those for youth sports. Often the level of competition has increased and athletes for the first time in their lives face the prospect of being cut from a team. Coaches should consider these ideas for conducting high school tryouts:

1.) Do your best to be perceived as treating the players equally.

2.) Ease into drills and competitive situations to make sure all are warmed up and none are immediately humiliated by difficult drills

3.) Create a variety of competitive environments

4.) Cut as few people as possible.

5.) If cuts are necessary, handle them humanely.
