How Coaches Can Emphasize LGBT Inclusiveness
With advances in LGBT rights in the U.S., more athletes are coming out at all levels of play, including youth and high school sports. Therefore, it is important for coaches to understand how to include those populations in their program in ways that are safe, welcoming and educational for all involved in the program. These tips and ideas come from You Can Play, a non-profit advocacy head group led by Executive Director Wade Davis, a former NFL player, who came out as gay after leaving the NFL.
Divided into “prep work” for coaches to consider and an action plan for coaches to implement, this document is a concise reminder of why and how to emphasize inclusiveness for lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and trans-gender athletes in sports programs.
